Origin: XX [etym. unknown]
Etymology: Acc. to EM from σάλη = `φροντίς'. Scholars derive it from σάλος (with transition to the s-stems), given by Hesychius as = `φροντίς, ταραχή'. This is identified with σάλος `tossing motion' (s.v.); however, this seems quite doubtful. σάλη (also σάλα H.) would be a back-formation of ἀσαλής and ἀσαλεῖν (cod. ἀσάλειν) ἀφροντισθῆναι.
